Written by an American based in America talking about the US model of Edward Jones. The US model that is far more sales based than the UK and I wouldnt rely on opinions of the US model as an example of the UK.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I don't really understand what the problem is with knocking on peoples doors to introduce. Lets look at the facts - an Edward Jones advisor opens a branch in a town. How does he build his business ? He can take out adverts, he can buy a list of names and numbers and emails, or he can wander around the area letting people know he's there. Personally, and I've been on the receiving end of an Edward Jones door knock, I'd much rather someone introduced themselves face to face then harrassed me over the phone or email. In my situation, I politely told the young man that I already dealt with an IFA and wasnt interested. Two days later I received a note in the post saying thank you for my time. I was impressed with the direct but non invasive approach and I'll probably arrrange a meeting if I get time to see what they can offer. My IFA isnt local and we only have a distant relationship - if I can pop over to a branch and see whats going on I think it gives me more control.
In case you are wondering,no, I do not work for EJ and no, I'm not (yet) a client of EJ. Sometimes people only post when they have negative experiences so I thought its only fair to give a balanced view.
In the old days (remember before email and mobile phones !?) business was done face to face and by post and there were a lot less sharks around. Trusting someone with your money is a big move, and being able to see, visit and be near to the person you are giving the money to is a big bonus for me.
Lastly I hope people can see past the faceless fools like truth123 above who make statements and don't justify them. If you think they are a con, share your experience like I have shared mine. Or don't bother posting.0 -
