Homemade cakes/biscuits-good for how long?

I am new to the forums on here so apologies for the stupid question!

I like to make my own victoria sponge cakes and biscuits etc. How long will they keep in a tupperwear type container?

Thanks

It varies really depending on temperature and where you keep them. If i make a cake i keep it in the fridge in a tupperware.

Biscuits go in the biscuit tin they don't really get the time to go off as they are usually eaten the same day.

I also make a batch of refridgerater biscuits dough then cook them when we want them:

    Chocolate Chip

    175g Butter (at room temp)
    75g icing sugar
    225g self-raising flour sieved
    1/2 teaspoon of orange zest
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    60g plain chocolate chips

mix all ingredients together except choc chips, mix in choc chips knead dough then roll into sausage shape wrap in cling film place in fridge for 1 hour.

Cut off 1/2 cm slices (as many as you want) and bake in the oven at gas mark 4 180c for 10min.

    Vanilla Refrigerator Biscuits

    225g plain flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    100g butter
    175g caster sugar
    1 tsp vanilla essence
    1 egg beaten

Sift together flour and baking powder
    rub in butter finely
Add sugar mix to a dough with vanilla and beaten egg
    Shape into a long sausage
wrap in clingfilm, refridgerate for 1 hour
    make about 45 biscuits

    cook the same as above

Make sure you grease you baking sheet and remove them for your baking sheet and place them on a wire rack using a spatula as soon as you take them out of the oven otherwise they will stick!
The rest can be left in the fridge until you want them .

forgot to add leave a space between each bisuit as they spread whilst cooking.

Thanks Mophead. the cake has no cream or anything just jam and is kept on the side at room temp in air tight container. It doesn't normally last longer than a week but the last one I made did for some reason and I got paranoid about eating it in case it was on the turn.

Unless it furry you shouldn't worry too much about it, I don't think it will make anybody ill. Just will get a bit dry so just give it a poke and if it still feels moist you should be OK.

If they're going stale before you can eat them then you're obviously not as greedy as my family:D but you can freeze most cakes and biscuits. I'd cut cakes into slices before freezing.

And stale buns and sponges will freshen a little in the microwave. Heat in portions for about 1 to 1½ minutes on medium and serve with custard.

    :)

Trust me we normally are much greedier! I can't explain this time why it wasn't eaten within the week.

Oh and thanks to Squeaky for the microwave and custard tip. Am drooling at the thought of that now :D
