Help with housing costs

Could anybody give me advice please. I currently live with my parents as a single parent (female), with children female children aged 13 and 4. I am presently working parttime (24.5 hrs) per week. My gross salary is approx £510 per month. I receive tax credits of £214 per week (of which £87 is childcare costs for my youngest child). I receive CB of £31.35 per week.

I have been looking to privately rent property within the local area at approximately £500 per month. Could anybody give me advice please as to whether i would be entitled to help with my rent payments?

You should be entitled to help with your rent.

Your claim would be worked out under the new Local Housing Allowance. Your claim would be based on a 2 bedroom need (one for yourself and one for your daughters).

You need to go to the Councils website for the area you want to live in, and find out the 2 bedroom Local Housing Allowance rate. This will tell you the rent that your benefit will be worked out on.

You will then need to find out how much of this rate will be paid - it will be reduced because of your income. The Council website may have an online benefit calculator or use the one at entitledto.com. Make sure you put your childcare expenses in!
