Flashing LED on the dashbord of Megane

I have bought a used car ( renault megane coupe 2l, 98 ) for a couple of hundred pounds to get me to and from work. I have seen that there is a flashing light or LED in the centre of the dash. It flashes fairly rapidly - any idea what this is ? Thanks

If it flashes when the ignition is off then it's probably the telltale light for the alarm and/or immobiliser.

The immobiliser may have been disabled.

Least technical approach, black tape over it. More technical approach, remove it, although not sure what effect removing it would have. Probably best to ask on Renault forums where all those people who know about Renaults :)
