Hi all,
I have just bought a new bathroom suite ... problem is that we only had a shower in the bathroom before.. therefore there is no existing plumbing for a bath.
My q is can i take a feed from the water pipes feeding the shower using a compression joint that changes from the small pipes to the larger ones for a bath?
Thanks in advance.

A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.

Yes you can but, the bath will take some time to fill.
Is there going to be an independent shower in the bathroom again?.
If so be aware that water draw from the same pipe work (as the bath wash-hand basin WC) could result in someone getting scaled/or doused in cold water.
It would be far better to run new 3/4" pipework.
If the bathrooms upstairs, put in a pump while your at it, so's to provide a power shower and a bath WC that fills up in double quick time.

You can use a compression joint.
What kind of shower did you have?
If it was an electric shower it probably was fed from high-pressure mains. In this case you don't need pipe with larger diameter. Large pipes are needed only to feed bath from a water tank in the loft.0 -
Hi,
I would assume that you either have a combination boiler or a pump for the shower, to maintain adequate pressure?
You can tap into the two pipes leading to the shower, although as mentioned earlier it will take a long time to fill.
Is your shower a thermostatic mixer?
Most baths are piped up with 22mm pipe which can carry considerably more water than 15mm pipe. You can get 15mm bath tap connectors so there is no need to step up from 15mm to 22mm, just to be able to connect the bath taps.
Assuming the pipes feeding the shower are 15mm, simply tee into these pipes with 15mm equal tee's and then pipe the branch up the bath tap connectors which will be 15mm pipe with 3/4 inch tap connectors!
I would use push fit for ease of installation!

Thanks for that ... we are in a bungalow ..... the shower is a mira excell (i think) fed directly from the combi boiler .... the boiler is in the next room .... i have 22mm taps so thats why im asking.
So i can get 22 mm tap connecters which connect from a 15mm pipe ... is that right?A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -
Taps have either 1/2" or 3/4" thread. You can easily buy 15mm x 3/4" (and 15mm x 1/2") flexible hoses or connectors at any DIY shop or here:callansdad wrote:.... i have 22mm taps so thats why im asking.

Thanks for all the help ... now next Q
Is it worh investing a couple of quid in a pipe bender or should i just use elbow joints?A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -
I'd use joints. They are cheap and easy to use.0
