I just received a letter from Empire catalogue saying that they had not been able to process my last payment, so had "unfortunately" had to charge me £15 administration costs!
I checked with the bank and they hadn't refused the payment. I then phoned the catalogue and was told that it's all done electronically, and if the bank's systems happen to be down when they send the payment for processing, it gets lost in the system. So they send it at the wrong time, and I get charged for it?! £15 is a lot of money for me, but luckily I was told the charge had been withdrawn. What I want to know is, if it's all done at the press of a button, where does the fifteen quid come in?
