Premium Bond win! but I don't have any

I had a wonderful surprise today. I have won £50 on the premium bonds.:j The strange thing is that I cashed in all of my bonds in March.
This is what the letter said;

'The prize has been re-allocated to you because your Bond is next in line on the reserve list and the original winner is not eligible to receive this prize.Although your winning Bond has been repaid you are still entitled to the prize'

Has anyone heard about this?

    Never heard about this but wait and see if you get the £50 cheque. If you do, you're laughing and if you don't c'est la vie.

    I assume the prize was for a draw that took place BEFORE you cashed the bonds?

    If the original winner of the bond isn't eligible for a prize, (the only reason I can think of off the top of my head is they've been deceased for over 12 months, but there may be others) then their prize gets passed on to someone on the reserve list. I guess it could take some time for NS&I to be informed, so you could end up with a prize some time after your bonds are cashed. Which is leaving me looking out for a cheque after selling my bonds last June ;).

    I received the cheque with the letter. I had my bonds in the March draw and won £100, then cashed them in a few days later. I got that prize in mid March. I never realised that there was a reserve list. Does that mean that they pick two numbers for each prize?
    Does anyone know how the reserve list works?

    More likely an address in Europe. Probably IOM/IOW.
