Selling US shares

I have an account with Sharetrade and when dealing UK stocks you can place your trades real time which is great as you have control of the transaction.
I have some US shares I want to sell but the site says I have to place the order with the dealer for this. How does this work? Do you select a price you'd be happy to sell at or is just pot luck?
Thanks
