If you have a UK passport there is no visa requirement for EC countries.0

Is this trip before or after your trip to india?
Dont wana be rude but your posts are a tad odd, one minute you are trying to book a flight to india then rome, then you're sending £50000 over to the states and then worrying about getting money back on a cake mix from morrisons, I think we may have a secret agent in our midst.

If you need a visa to enter Italy, then stay away from Rome. They have just elected a fascist as mayor, and so the sort of people who beat up black or Asian-looking people are likely to be feeling confident at the moment.0

You might win a gold medal for spending time not for replying but collecting info on what someone is posting.
And I think you should change the slogan at the end of your posts to "the Silly answerer of questions " from "the answerer of silly questions.0 -
Perhaps if you clarify your question people could answer it?0

OK, so the visa is for the spouse of a UK citizen. In which case the process is accelerated; no fee for the visa; and no need to provide hotel bookings or proof of money for the trip. Anyway, if you are applying in person the visa will be issued on the same day, so it is just a question of how long you have to wait for an appointment. For postal application, it could be anything. The French embassy (one of the better ones) warns that a postal visa application takes "several weeks", although Austria will do the job in about seven days.0
