Anyone got an opinion on travelex buyback offer?
I'm lending money to a friend for their holiday so they have to take cash?
It seems to be offering better x.rates than post office on buying?
Its the first time i've really looked so any other advice on 'cash' methods would be v.usefl....
thanks

I used travelex recently and found their basic rate to be the best - you do need to order it online though, pay by card and show ID and Card when you pick it up - may be problem for you.
As for the buy back scheme - I've never bourght back more than a few euros when coming back from holiday so why bother - ruins their rate as the best on the market0 -
thanks...
ID on the card could be a problem tho0 -
Fantastic for me. Bought well in advance for USA (greater than the 28 buy back promise). Absolutely no hassels collecting it from Heathrow with passport which I had anyway. Came back and did buy back whilst waiting for the luggage to come out. They had a travelex in the baggage hall!!!
One problem I had was queriing the 28 day buy back. The date this starts from is actually the day you pick up the currency and not the day you buy it on line.
Rates were by far the best too!!!!!0 -
Do Travelex process orders off-shore or in the UK?
Don't fancy being clobbered with a fee by Halifax for using a debit card transaction processed abroad........Need the euros for Monday and of course I've left it til the last minute!0 -
Travelex process in the UK I think.
I always get my cash from them, but sadly don't bother with buyback as I've not normally got any left when I come home!
You WON'T be able to order money from Travelex for your friend unless YOU are collecting it, as they WILL want to see your ID. Otherwise they would be offering a great money laundering service!!!
If you've got a BA Executive Clud card, order your money from Travelex via this link: https://www.batravelmoney.com and get 1 BA mile per £1 of currency ordered.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Re: last comment buy Via BA.
I tried to use my BA card and was told that you cant have 0% Comission and BA miles. Also the BA rate was worse than the Travelex direct rate (ONLINE ONLY)
So order with https://www.travelex.co.uk and get the best deal.
BEWARE online in advance only, they charge the earth if you just buy over the counter!!0 -
Thanks for the help,I put an order through this morning for collection on Monday. I thought about just changing sterling at the airport, I'm not surprised to hear that they fleece you, you're a captive audience!0

I ALWAYS get 0% commission AND BA Miles, so they must be having you on! You are quite right that you get a worse rate on the BA link, however I've just remembered that I buy mine via this link:
http://www.travelex.co.uk/avisba/moneynet.asp
That will give you the SAME rate as Travelex website AND your BA Miles as well.
That link isn't available via the Avis/BA partner website any more (as Avis use Amex on their website), so add it to your Favourites!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Just a word of warning to check their office opening hours match the arrival time of your return flight. I tried to use the buyback scheme last year at Birmingham only to find that all their offices at the airport closed at midnight. I was unable to change the money back without waiting 4 or 5 hours for them to reopen.
I phoned them the next day and arranged to send the euros back with PO Special Delivery. Got the value of the euros back but they would not pay for my postage costs, suggesting that I could go back to Birmingham (from Devon!).0
