Reclaiming Tax

Hi,
This is my first post on here, so apologise if I am in the wrong place.
I am a student and have been working part time for the past year. I have not earned enough to reach the basic tax threshold however, have been taxed as though I have earned enough.
What do I do to reclaim this tax, presuming that I can?
Also am I able to reclaim NI contributions that have been made?

Your help is much appreciated.

You will be able to reclaim the income tax paid as you haven't reached the personal allowance threshold. Do you have a P45 from your last employer? I would think the tax office that dealt with your last employer would be a good starting point.

Not an expert by any means but think it extremely unlikely that NI contributions can be reclaimed.

Yes you are right, NI contributions cannot be reclaimed.HM Customs and Revenue will not make cash refunds of any national insurance contributions that you pay. However, your payments are added to your personal contributions record that counts towards your state pension and /or other benefits in due course. You can contact the national insurance contributions office for details of your personal contributions on 0191 213 5000.

Give your local Tax office a ring and ask them to send you the form you need for claiming a tax rebate.

They will post it to you - it's very easy to fill in, from memory. They will send you a cheque for the amount you are owed within a few weeks if it is straightforward.

NI contributions cannot be reclaimed - only tax.
