Free Prescriptions for those with Chronic Illnesses

I'm sure I heard last year somewhere that from April this year, anyone with a chronic illness can get their prescriptions foc?
I know certain illnesses such as diabetes have qualified for this in the past, but I'm certain I heard it was being extended?
Would be of particular help to me as hae 12 prescriptions a month, although do currently have pre-payment card.

Does anyone have any info on this by any chance?
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

Prior to prescriptions becoming free in Wales I had an expemtion certificate this I was told to apply for by my GP. I dont know what the rules are in England regarding chronic illness but it might be worth asking either your GP or the Practice Manager at your surgery:A
I dont feel comfortable in stating what my condition is on here but feel free to PM if you want to know on what grounds I qualified.
:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j

It depends on what your condition is, only certain things are included. Things like asthma and heart disease are not included and you will still have to pay.

Yes it's true, though it's been going on for years. Members of my family are exempt from all charges due to having hypothyroidism. Book an appointment with your practice nurse if you're not sure if you qualify and need to know how to apply.

It is totally random - eg hypothyroidism is exempt but things like cystic fibrosis which is a life long eventually fatal illness which requires huge amounts of medications is not exempt. Totally arbitary unfortunately.
