Goto control Panel, networking and sharing centre, turn on the sharing and discovery options. Select the folders to share. Job done, make yourself a congratulatory cup of tea

Think vista has protected file sharing on by default so you will also need to enter an account name and password for the share make sure the accounts exist on both pc's

When you run the sharing options it will ask you what folders you want to share and with who, there is nothing complicated at all.

A little knowledge ;) You don't need to do this, it is just one way of doing it.

Took me ages and I can't remember exactly how, but something to do with authorities and the network name, I think.

    Google it :)

In Network and Sharing Centre just turn off Password Protected Sharing. Job Done

Turn off password protected sharing in Network Control Centre.

sorry to hijack this post but I thought I'd have a go at getting my laptop to communicate with my desktop. Presumably, when you share a file or folder from one computer, the other computer should be able to see it? I have successfully shared 2 files from my laptop but so far I can't see them on the desktop. Am I looking in the wrong place - I thought they would magically appear in My Documents??? Also, I assume if you make a change to the file on one computer (say, for instance, add a paragraph to a document) then this would automatically be adjusted in the document on the other computer? (as you can probably tell, its all a bit of a mystery for me!).
