Engagement ring

My sons both bought rings that were made for them and they were really happy with them. We were fortunate to know someone who DH and I have known over 35 years so we knew we could trust him. He also made a ring for a friend of ours when she remarried and they loved their ring. If you can be recommended someone I would certainly go down this path. My sons were told that to buy the ring would have cost twice as much, this wasn't a favor to them it is the way he works as it cuts out the middle man.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

My ring is second hand. I saw it and said to then bf 'if you were to ever buy me an engagement ring, I'd like one just like that.' So he bought it for me. It was only about £200 but its perfect.
You can get so much more for your money if you get a second hand ring so maybe that would be worth considering.0 -

You can choose the clarity of the stone and the colour of the gold etc to suit your budget. Absolutely brilliant!!

It was a premade one but I have still not seen another the same in 7 years. Have a good look round and chat to the people in the shop, they really are helpful and make some good sugestions.
Was just reading a post from someone that is getting a specially made, own design, ring made from the Jewelry quarter.
Do you have an idea of what you are after?0 -
Also a fan of the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. Had a lovely platinum and diamond engagement ring from Newey's. Won't go anywhere else for my jewellery.0

Can't remember the name of the place rigt now, but therplace onear Heanor that hand makes.. if you see it elsewhere, they can make it usualy for lesss... they advertise on local commercial radio... alternatively, if you're anywhere near leicester, try Belgrave Rd/Melton Rd area.. lots of Asian jewellers, plenty of stuff thats a bit different to the mainstream, and very reasonable prices...0

Hi all,
I know it won't be too practical for most people, but I proposed to my now fianc!e whilst we were on holiday in Crete. We bought the engagement ring out there, was a spur of the moment thing (I asked her to come into the jewelers to have a look, I then walked out with a ring about 20 minutes later).
We got it valued when we got back to England, everywhere said it'd be worth 2-3 times the value of what I paid for it in Crete.
My suggestion to some people is that whilst it's a tiny risk that the ring might not be great, if you get a certificate with it then if it does turn out to be faulty/incorrectly valued then as long as you've paid for it on your credit card, you'll be covered by that. And in the best case scenario, you'll get loads of people saying wow what a lovely ring (as we've had) - and it'll be worth surprisingly more than you would think.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you could easily save yourselves anywhere between £200-£600 on the ring if you buy it abroad from a proper jewelers, and you could put that money into a short romantic break with your soon-to-be-fianc!e...
Good luck to all those who are about to propose - I did it two weeks ago, and have never looked back. Though the wedding planning's certainly not easy!
Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
Hi All
Been a bit of delay in reply due to work... I've taken a look at some of the Jewellers above and think I will mix the idea of two rings that I've spotted...and hopefully get it made so it's a uniqueish design...just got to save those pennies to pay for it.
Just for the record can someone suggest a Ring maker in the Preston Area give or take 30 miles either way..so you can not narrow me down, LOL!"I AM THE GATEKEEPER OF MY OWN DESTINY" Nacho Libre
