Hi, my ds will be a big brother in 5 weeks and I'm looking for suggestions for a gift for him from the baby please. He will be 23 months when the baby comes and apart from a teddy bear, everything I've found online seems to be for older kids. All suggestions most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Our DS1 was 2and a half when DS2 came along and we bought him a big Lunar Jim toy from the baby. He loved it and remembers to this day that DS2 bought him the Lunar Crawler! We also got him an 'I'm a Big Brother' t-shirt which he wore with pride (grown out of it now but I've tucked it away to keep forever!).
Good luck with everything! If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
My god son was just coming up to 2 years old when his little sister was born, and she bought him a lovely wooden train set....he loves trains. He then proceded to play with it on the floor in the hospital and charm all the nurses lol.
I would suggest something special like that to do with something he likes.
I also love the t-shirt idea.....i'm so doing that when i have kids

I'd definately go for something he likes ? Maybe the Night Garden at this age or even a 3 wheeler scooter. My dd got a doll when her brother was born - she was 25 months but had got the scooter for her second birthday and still loves it at 3.5 years. Then again maybe not a good idea to give him it in hospital !So little money - so much time :mad:0

Our sons 'swopped' gifts in hospital I put my oldest sons present wrapped on the shelf under the cot and said that his brother had got him something! He was so excited and talked about what his brother had got him all the time!! I also made him a big brother tshirt.
I think what help the bonding process is to try and not be too anxious about how the big one kisses and hugs the baby - keep a close eye but babies are pretty sturdy and the oldest one is showing affection so give them lot of praise and distract them if they are a bit ottPlan to PAD Everyday 2026Credit Card - £2864.24 int free to 31/05/26) -PAD TotalsJan 2026 - £277.72Feb 2026 - £40.57 11.11% paid!0 -

Although my son was 4 when my daughter came along I included him with everything including the phone call when she arrived in the world, as my dad was looking after my son. I was on a 6 hour dishharge after having her so I was home by dinnertime, my son came in the afternoon and before anyone else held my daughter I let my son sit and hold her. he bought her a teddy bear and she in return bought him a toy and a game. They also both had a present from me matching pink and blue t shirts one saying I am the big brother, and the other saying I am the little sister.
My son is very good with her although can sometimes get in her face a little. I agree with the comment above buy something he is into and put it away once finished with it as a keepsake.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
Thanks again everyone, so kind of you to post. I had thought of a scooter but wondered if he'd be too young for it. I really like the idea of something he could play with at the hospital, mostly so he could stay longer at the hospital without getting bored (see below!)!
I have made it clear to all the family & friends that I want to see ds before anyone else visits so we can have time as the four of us - to be honest I'm dreading being away from him, even though I know I'll have my hands full and be aching! I'm the one with the separation anxiety, not him, lol!
For medical reasons I'm having a planned section so we know when I'm going in (well, hopefully anyway) so I'm hoping that will help - there will be no crazy hospital dash in the middle of the night and getting ds to grannys etc.
Thanks again everyone.0 -
There is a website that does personalised gifts- the only 1 really appropriate for a 2 yr old is a personalised cd (they put your chosen name in the songs), 2 yr olds love songs. Although, at £13 it is a bit pricey. The website is starstories.co.uk if you wanted to check it out.
Good luck with the new baby xx0
