Yes they should tell you which is the best one. I am with EON and use the online facility. I check every few months to make sure there isn`t a cheaper product. I went on price protection when one of the online tariffs ended. It was a good move as prices have gone up.

If you post your area, and how many day and night units you have used over the last 12 months, sombody can probably help you work it out.

    MP

Thanks! I'll get my calculator out! Watch this space! :D

Night time units 12502 Daytime units 5979

That takes into account the units from 5 bills Feb - Feb 07 - 08 and I pay by standing order of £110 per month.(7483 / 3925 for 4 bills)

    Night units
    4.6515 pence per kWh

Day units up to 900 kWhs
    19.614 pence

    Day units
    14.301 pence per kWh
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

Thank you for this post. I'm with Eon for gas & electricity and, until now, I haven't looked on their website or looked to move providers:o . However, I received my bill today and worked out the increases which came into effect from 8th Feb.
The gas primary units increased by a whopping 41.25%   and the secondary units by 13.18% which I calculate makes a total increase of 28.81%  .
My concern about switching to another cheaper provider is that they may change their tariff in the future making them more expensive than Eon and I'll then regret moving:confused:

The primary rate threshold dropped from 4572kWh per year to 2680kWh per year so less units are now charged at the primary rate.

It`s all a gamble. I tend to look at changing suppliers but by the time I`ve put in the details then double checked the pence per unit etc it never works out more than a few £`s. The one that did come up cheaper was one of the companies that give you the discount once a year so if you move before the year is up you don`t get the discount. This puts me off.

I've just signed up to eon's price protection on the electric today.
Have I made the right decision?!? Not long after I put the phone down I thought to myself, maybe I should have waited another month or so....

economy 7 rate I'm paying now
    day primary units - 24.22p
    secondary units - 10.31p
    night units - 4.65p

    protection rate
    day primary units - 24.7p
    secondary units - 10.52p
    night units - 4.74p

Prices went up on the 8th Feb. When do you think the next price rise will be?

I think you've made the right decision to be honest. I've heard rumours that a price rise announcement is imminent (in the next 2-3 weeks!)

I don't know whether there's any truth in them but if the prices don't go up as much you can always switch to another tariff.
