Out of date chewing gum from Home Express

This is not so much a vent but a query, and I apologise if it comes across as petty.

Yesterday, amongst other things, I bought a sealed pack of 9 packs of 'Sensations' chewing gum, for the princely sum of £1.

However, when I got home I noticed that the Expiry date was October 2007. Now I am not sure what to do, as I don't particularly want to eat chewing gum that is 6 months out of date. I know it only cost me £1, but I don't see why it should be me that loses out. I didn't get a receipt, and this was the last pack on the shelf. Should I take it back, or what?

Thanks in advance.

    Personally, I'd just bin it!

If there were none left to check the date of, you'd need a receipt to prove you purchased it yesterday, and not 6 months ago.

Put it down to experience, and next time check the date and ask for a receipt.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    Bin it.

Or chew it. What harm will it do?

    And move on.

Is it "Best before" or "Use by"? If it's "Best before" then they're legally allowed to sell it after the date, and it's not going to kill you if you chew it!

You won't have a use by date on chewing gum. In fact almost all ambient (not chilled or frozen) "dates" will be best before except some baked products, not sure about eggs, never eat them.

Use by dates are more or less only normally found on chilled and frozen goods.

I would carry the gums around everywhere and then talk about it at dinner parties and your psycologist
  • who the hell checks the dates on chewing gum? it's not like you actually swallow it, just chew it a spit it out, that won't kill you :)

Have you seen the ingredients in chewing gum? There is no way it will ever go off.

Okay, I guess I set myself up for these 'humourous' responses. Lol.

All I really wanted to know is if it is okay to eat chewing gum which has expired. Obviously I was being a bit dumb - but I do see the funny side!
