Pontins Camber Sands

I have booked a free holiday with Pontins in Camber sands this summer with tesco clubcard vouchers. I am staying in Club accommodation. I have heard some bad reviews of this place and would like to know if any MSEers have visited. i am particularly interested in views of the club accommodation. I'm not really using the other facilities at the park, plan to day trip mainly.

Thanks

    Hi Charis
I booked last year a top appartment(gold) for 4 days wanted to come home after 1 the place is run down and filthy the carpets in reception are threadbare and ripped as well as in the pub and the scenes of crime people and the police were there for 2 days we didnt use the clubs at all but judging from what other guests were saying it was safer not to as well as quite a few people getting sick I would not reccommend this place to anyone it used to be nice when my kids were younger but it is dangerous and run down now also the pool was forever breaking down and would be closed most of the time.
We usually go to Haven seashore and butlins and can honestly say that these are 5 star luxury compared to this place
    sorry

If you plan to use the camp as a base and visit the surround area you should have a great time. The beach in Camber is wonderful as long as the weathers good. You could also have day trips to Rye and Hastings or even down to Dover.

I would suggest looking at other places to eat outside the campsite. When I was in Camber in the summer I found a nice country pub that sells good priced food. It’s on the beach front called the Green owl. I think I found some menus on their website and even found out that they do live music every now and again.

If you do venture into Rye for meals DO NOT eat at White's Steak and Seafood Bar/Restaurant. Unfortunately we did, placed our order and then waited with trepidation as numerous plates of food were sent back to the kitchen after customer complaints and customers walking out.
Food arrived complete with horrible unmentionable hair stuck on it!!! Complained and nobody did anything - not even a free coffee or knocking money off the bill. Boy did I wish we hadn't gone in.... be warned!

We went as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids under 5) a couple of years ago and I must admit the park is a bit run down, when you compare it with Haven and Butlins. However the kids really enjoyed the family shows in the evening with the different mascots and the pool. The staff were very nice too. The park is directly opposite a lovely sandy beach. Like the previous post said it is a great base to explore surrounding areas. We visted Hastings, battle, rye and Romney(great minature railway train and line to go on). We stayed in club accomodation and it was clean, but very basic. It is similar to the budget range in Butlins. I also would recommend eating away from the holiday park, as the food was limited and not particularly good.

We went 8 years ago for a long weekend and drove home again after 1 hour.

The place was dirty and stank. The pillows were damp and the headboard was covered in stains. The carpets were worn out and the door to the room didnt even shut correctly.

I am amazed after all those years the place is still open if it remains such a s**thole.

Avoid this like the plague unless you want to catch the plague!!

the only cash machine in the whole of camber seemed to be the one inside pontins, which you have to pay to use, just so you know!

We booked ours through the sun newspaper and paid £60ish for 5 of us,for 4 days with free return ferry to france.
Its ok as a base camp to explore ,but i would not want to stay on the site
    all of the time.
As others have said it is very dated and run down.

We went there about 5 years ago when my son was a baby and hated it. It's not child friendly as it wasn't easy to manoeuvre the push chair around (lots of kerbs) and the club room was upstairs so we didn't even bother to try and go in. And yes, the accommodation left a lot to be desired.
