Problem with AEG Washing Machine

Hi,

I was looking for some advice with regards a problem with my AEG washing machine. On most programs it will go so far through the cycle and then just stop, and then the computer display just starts flashing at some random figure, not the number of minutes left in the wash. If we get through the wash then we'll reset the program to rinse and spin but most often this will not work and we'll have to spin the clothes as well. The thing is this doesn't happen all the time. We may get a few days of good washes and then it crops up again. We may also get a loud noise from the drum just before it freezes.

The thing is I don't want to call a plumber out if it's an expensive job. I'd rather just get a new machine. But AEG are supposed to be good (I thought). So I just wondered if anyone else had had a similar problem and how it was rectified.

Thanks for your help,

  • The same happened to me some months back on our AEG washer. The spin cycle would sometime kick in and sometimes not.....eventually found out that PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards) connections were not fully engaged (standard push-in connectors). Open the top of your washer and the connections will be on the top right above the know control unit. It is fidly and you will need small fingers. Push all connections in fully and try the machine.

    Absolutely !
these things can come loose due to vibration during the spin cycle.

My brother worked for AEG as an appliance engineer for many years and we had a couple of AEG machines. I have to say i was fairly dissapoited in their reliability.

We bought a Hotpoint a few years ago and that has been far more relaible and cheaper than our AEG machines ever were.
