Oh, how I wish I'd bought those capers when they were on offer. I chuck them on home-made pizza and I have a recipe for salmon fish-cakes which has them chopped up in the mixture. At this rate you'll still have 46 jars this time next year. Could you treat them a bit like anchovies and chop them up finely/mince them and add to stews and casseroles?

I was thinking of the same... My OH adds anchovies into his spag bog instead of salt, it completely cooks off and you wouldn't know... mabye the same could be done with capers?

And there was me feeling bad because I bought 1 jar for a recipe and it makes me feel guilty every time I spot it lurking in the back of the fridge!
I would be having sleepless nights if I'd got 48 jars of the things.... strong wee beasties aren't they? Bit difficult to hide I've found!

They add a nice flavour to cabbage.

Can't you give them away as Christmas presents? Nice little stocking filler :-)

  • Being from Approved Foods they are probably past their sell by date so I guess wouldnt be suitable for gifts or Harvest Festival, etc... Wish I had some ideas but none of us like them here.

I love them too, wish I'd known about that offer

the good news is that they keep just about forever, I have a catering jar in the fridge that I've had for years quite some time :o & we're still using them & alive to tell the tale :D

I put them on pizzas, sprinkle them on pasta before serving*, put them in salads & in sandwiches, they're particulary good with tuna mayo, but maybe that's a bit too fishy?

EDIT ... *they're surprisingly nice with bolognaise style sauces, the trick to add them just before serving & not too many so you get a nice salty pungent bite every so often (I actually like loads on mine, but it's not to everyone's taste)

You can use them in a fish pie, especially nice for the recipes that have chopped hardboiled egg as well as fish in.

You can chop them up and hide them in home made burgers.

    Like these

won't get rid of many, but every little helps. My friends all say these are the best burgers ever....
