I am about to trade in my car.
I have about 4 months road tax left.
Can this be reimbursed ?
Is it the norm to remove the tax disc when trading a car in ?

Yes take the disk out as the trade in garage will have it anyway.
And they will get the refund.0 -
Thanks Mr Skint0

And perhaps don't mention to the garage that you have done this - hope they don't notice cos if they do they might knock the price down.0

When I traded in the garage told me to do it, they gave me the form to re-claim as well:D0

if the section of the order form where your PX details are indicate that the car has 4 months tax left theoretically it forms part of the contract so therefore no you can't remove it however most dealers aren't too bothered about it.0

Hi, I'm trading in my car as well and the garage has told me to keep the disc and claim a refund. How do I do this?
Thanks for any replies

MJK,
Nip down to your local post office and ask for the relevant form, fill it in and attach the tax disc. A couple of weeks later you'll receive a cheque back from the DVLA.0 -
Actually, you can simply download the form from the DVLA site, fill it in and send it off. Much simpler than having to go to the PO just for the one thing.0
-
be aware that you can only claim complete months and it must get to the DVLA BEFORE the start of the month ie must get there in Oct if you want to reclaim Novembers taxTANSTAAFL !0
