Access to Port 8443

I have downloaded a work related program and having used it for several months it has now stopped working.
I have been told that I probably need to change my settings to allow access to port 8443 but I have no idea how I do this - can anyone point me in the right direction?
I am using windows vista, firewall switched on, AVG 7.5 antivirus, negear router - I don't know if any of that makes any difference
Any help would be very much appreciated.

You need more information really, is this an outbound port or an inbound port, from where and for what program?
You can configure the port on your router. Do a quick search on google for this.0 -

Thank you - that website looks great.
I think I will be spending tomorrow morning working through the instructions on there!0 -
opening ports on your router is a bit of a security risk and surprised they have told you too do this, if this is used for work action, security would take precedence.
Also why is this necess when the application worked fine previously with ports closed?
They should also inform you of correct procedures to close ports after using the apps.click here to achieve nothing!0
