    Thanks for the replies so far, my heart is still saying MX5! I guess I'll just have to weigh up the pros and cons of buying something older and proven to be reliable, or something newer and more economical. Decisions, decisions!!

    Once you test drive an MX-5 you'll be smitten! I was originally thinking of an Audi TT or Honda S2000, drove both but it was the Mazda that won on both fun and money saving!

    Ford parts are dirt cheap..

    Mazda, Golf , all great cars but may cost you in parts and maintenance..

    But they will hold their value better.

    Personally if you are gonna run the car until it dies, I would get a Ford.

    More for your money... Probably pick up a couple year old Focus or Mondeo for £4000.
