Choose to refuse does not work on 08xx numbers?

  • We've got choose to refuse now and it seems like it might be working!

It looks like Halifax use a lot of numbers behind the 08708503492 number. When i dial into the choose to refuse service it doesn't say 0870xxx phoned. It said that the last call was from a regional number. 3 different ones so far.

We, like the poster above, have actually received a WRITTEN CONFIRMATION that Halifax will NOT phone for the next 4 weeks AND that they have accepted the DMP payments. Still they don't stop phoning. My other half is paying the monthly payment to them but they still phone. On the few occasions she has picked up the phone they say they have not accepted the DMP and that CCCS aren't allowed to act on her behalf/are just agents/can't help/ etc etc.. They also call her irresponsible, silly and so on.. I would say that her going to the CCCS and aims to pay back the debts IN FULL is actually very responsible....Halifax get their money back (without interest, but still a LOT more than if she went bankrupt).

We have also sent a complaint about telephone harassment. They replied that they believed they were not harrassing. We are now going to take the complaint further to the FSA.

As for calls to her mobile...luckily her mobile has an "accepted list" so anything not on that list goes straight to voicemail. Her phone doesn't even ring!

Funny thing is, every time we get a letter from Halifax they ask my other half to phone them if she is experiencing financial difficulty....SHE HAS PHONED!! A number of times. They also suggest that she contacts debt agencies like CCCS and National Debt Line....guess what. She's done that too!!! So why aren't they listening?!?

We have reported Halifax to BBC Watchdog....if enough people do it perhaps they'll do a story on it!! I urge everyone who has problems with Halifax and who are on a DMP to do this....They can't be allowed to continue to do this!

The best thing to do is not to speak to them on the phone. Like I say, I have a few problems with Barclaycard and just ignore their calls. I can't pay any more than I am already paying and as you say, the fact that your OH is on a DMP is showing that she is committed to paying her debts back.

As I say, I've had absolutely no problems with Halifax, they've actually been one of the few creditors who have not given me any hassle and accepted the DMP. Perhaps I have a lot coming my way!!

They are just trying to bully your OH into paying more and many of the letters they send are computer generated. I wouldn't phone them if you receive a letter but let CCCS know that they have been received and they will advise from there.

The letter 10 past 6 suggests works very well but for full effect must be sent on its own by recorded delivery merely putting your request in a sentence of aletter discussing many things does not work, it should do but then you are giving them far too much credit with intellegence and secondly if on its own gets to the right people instead of sitting on someone else desk because you requested a cca, time to pay, F & F etc
