Anyway, can you look at this and tell me what you think? Waste of money?

That is one big TV!! :D

I think at the end of the day you get what you pay for. HDTV is high-definition, and is only relevent on very big TVs (which of course this is one of). The TV will not be 'defunct' when HDTV comes if it is not compatible - it just won't be as high definition (BTW in case you don't know high-definition just means that if you look really closely at the TV there is more detail). Unless you can afford to spend a few grand on a plasma screen then this should suit you just fine. I have watched films on my cousin's huge rear-projection TV and didn't really have any criticisms, and I can't say the picture looked blurred at all because it was too low-definiton. Rear projection screens function best with the lights off though I think as they are not as bright as plasma - but like I said you get what you pay for.

Have a look around on https://www.avforums.com and read what tv etc in you local WH Smiths, buy it if needed.

The TV is v big and will go back a long way in your room.

I wouldn't worry about HDTV just yet, it will be a premium (extra subscription) product on Sky and a new digibox etc would be needed.

HD might never make it to Freeview.

For most people 28/32 inch Widescreens are enough.

I myself got the 28 Inch Beko a few years ago in Tesco for £250 and am very happy with it. It now costs a lot less and beat a lot of pricer models in the group test in what tv magazine.

Whatever model you find, get the model number and stick the details in Kelkoo, pricerunner and dealtime at least to get the best price.
