Is there anyone who can advise on removal companies and negotiating costs? Can't spend much more time on PC - hands seizing up! Thanks

I phoned up quite a few a couple of weeks ago and most wouldn't negotiate. They only one that I managed to get any movement on said they would knock £50 off their £750 charge when I convinced them that we had less than they thought to move and they decided they would only need 2 rather than 3 men. In the event we only had 2 men with a different co, only half filled a van and they were done in less thn half a day. Getting them round to quote means they can be more accurate (we didn't have time which might be another reason why they wouldn't negotiate).
You can look up removers in your area on http://www.removers.org.uk/0

You can sometimes negotiate a better deal if you move any weekday except Friday. Everybody seems to want to complete and move on a Friday. So it's back to old economics of 'demand and supply'.
Also, if you need a removal company at short notice best to forget FridaysYou don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing" Large print giveth - small print taketh away. "0

Actually that was a weird thing about the company we went with - we wanted to move on a Sunday or Monday, they charged £495 for Saturday or Sunday or £50 more - £545 for any other day. I thought it was a mistake in their written quote so double checked but it wasn't a mistake so we moved on the Sunday.0

I don't know if there's much room for negotiation. We are hopefully moving soon and need removal firms that will just move our stuff to the new address approx 2 miles away from our old address. We will disassemble our cupboards and beds from upstairs and re-assemble them at the other end. We will do the packing and unpacking ourselves. So far I have these quotes, note these have all visited my house to provide me with a better quote:
 £450 1st removal company
 £390 2nd removal company
 £380 3rd removal company
 £724 Pickfords.
Spot the odd one out. All the removal firms I have approached have insurance. I'm just going to call Pickfords to tell them they are taking the mick 0 0

Just called them and they told me the price is correct and that they are always more expnsive than other smaller firms as they are bigger and better, and we have resources here there and everywhere, blah di blah di blah.rare_uk wrote:

yeah, yeah.. usual load of ..... how do they keep going at those prices? Suppose it's all those people with more money than sense.
I'm dreading getting my quotes from Cornwall to Berks - 200 miles - however, I haven't sold yet - I just wanted to be prepared. Thanks to u all. :TC'est la vie!0

            Hiya,
We are moving from Essex to Bedfordshire, approx 75 miles and the cheapest quote I've had so far has been £720. This is for a basic pack with 2 blokes door to door. However, when I asked if they would better it for cash they knocked off the VAT and I am now paying £600!!! Fantastic me thinks. Ok, its a bit dodgy but surely they are the ones in the wrong for taking cash? Worth a try though.
 Thanks,
