If you use the Tube more than twice a day in Zones 1-2 (ie where most tourists will be) then the passes do become cost effective0

If you've got a child with you, you can get family travel cards. You'll pay 80p for Friday and free on Saturday and Sunday(child), but they will be issued with a card, and a maximum of £4.00 per adult. (depending if you get all zones). This info can also be found on tfl site.
If no child, then refer to what the other posters have said. Also you could do the busses. A day ticket cost £3.00. Children are free. Tubes are probably quickest, but London's buses are good.(Well from my experience anyways, and compared to 10yrs ago when I lived in London.)0 -
Can you buy a family travel card and travel without having a child?

My word. The t + c on family travelcards was a bit hard to get your head round.
We travelled on tube in July and were going to buy 2 adult tickets from the machine. The guard, who had already helped us plan our journey, stopped us and told us to go and get a family travelcard (first time of Tubing as a family, so didn't know they existed!) as it would save us money.
:T to the guard!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
