Innovative banks

I am looking for an innovative bank to open my accout with. A bank that is different. A bank where I have the freedom to do what I want, anywhere, anytime. What are your suggestions and why do you think these banks are innovative?

You mean a bank with internet and telephone banking? Virtually all high street banks and building societies offer this kind of service.

For best online banking, I'd go for HSBC.

    There are also online-only banks:

    FirstDirect https://www.firstdirect.co.uk
    Cahoot https://www.cahoot.co.uk
    Egg https://www.egg.co.uk
    Smile https://www.smile.co.uk
The Intelligent Something (i can't remember the name) - you'll need to Google this one

    Do you mean Intelligent Finance?

They were the first internet only people I switched to ... I switched away 3 months later ... read into that what you will.

Not sure what you're looking for ... but it's not a Bank. They have T&Cs you're supposed to adhere to .... but you do have the freedom to read them!

Anna, you need an account with the Bank of England. An account with them says a great deal about you, since only a few select people are allowed to bank with them. Such elite individuals are issued with a cheque book, and are free to write cheques anywhere in the world, at any time of the day or night. In fact, the bank's conditions even allow you to write a cheque while you are in orbit, although I don't know if anyone has ever done so.

And the Bank of England is truly innovative. They have just announced that they will include a free haircut with all subscriptions to their latest bond issue. Surely this is the ultimate innovation from a bank.

Have a look @ BOS Private Banking... it'll give you something innovative - but can you qualify?

Funny how all of what was described is virtually universal these days... except for fee free overdrafts, which HSBC (nee Midland) has now mostly dropped (see: infinite "arrangement fee OMGZ" threads). Funny that :D
