Hi Everyone,
A freind of mine has leant me there apartment in Altea Hills, at the end of May 6 of us (4 adults and 2 x 15 year old girls) are going there for a week. We are on a tight budget but want to make the best of our stay. We are renting a people carrier for the week. Anyone got any ideas in places to visit, best places to shop for food etc, where to go in the evenings and how to enjoy the week on a budget.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Have you booked your flights yet? If not would you be able to take advantage of the current 'free' flights from Bournemouth with Ryanair - if they fly to Alicante/Murcia/Valencia (sorry haven't checked if they go this route) Take a trip to Javea to have a wander round the port are and the old town or just aze on the lovely beach at the Arenal0

I'll second the visit to Javea and then go a little further along the coast to Moraira. Also a drive up to the Cap. Nau I think it's called. The scenery is spectacularMember #7 SKI-ers Club

Take a 'walk' up Penon De Ifach in Calpe - its a good afternoons entertainment with fantastic views.
Plus its free!0 -
Shop in "Mercadonna" Spain's equivalent of SainsburysThis is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Hi,
I highly recommend the caves at Busot, which is inland from Benidorm. If you haven't experienced caves in the past this is a must.

Also a visit to Guadalest.
Have a great trip.

Go to the Tuesday morning market in Altea then down to the seafront where a restaurant almost overlooking the carpark does a lovely three course lunch with wine and bread for about $8.
See how cheaply you can buy a bag of oranges - 5 kilos for a couple of euros( well in January they were)
Go to see the fish being sold at Calpe fishmarket...about 5pm and free.
Go into Benidorm to find the cheapest place selling coffee, brandy and cake...usually it's less than €2!0 -
Thanks for all the great information, Im starting to look forward to the holiday already0

nobody has mentioned Gaudalest - it's one of the most popular tourist attractions on the Costa Blanca! Very scenic and not far from you. More info here:

Also Benidorm worth a night out - many free shows and bands on.

PS - Altea is a fantastic place!0 -
Don't eat on the seafront!! The only bad meals I've had in the whole of Spain were on Altea front, poor quality and a very high price.
Altea however is lovely. To see some wonderful scenery take the train from the station in central Altea up to Denia, the views are amazing!
If you're on a budget watch for the menu del dia's on a lunchtime, these include 3 courses with bread and a drink for under 10euros.0
