hey i have windows xp and windows have suggested to me to download these files:
Cumulative updates for internet explorer 6 for windows XP (KB947864)
Security updates for ActiveX killbits for windows XP (KB948881)
Security updates for windows XP (KB941693)
Security updates for windows XP (KB944338)
Security updates for windows XP (KB945553)
and i was just wondering if they are safe to download or not?

Yes!
If they are coming from Windows Update then they are safe, and will fix all manner of insecurities in your system. Personally you should also update from IE6 to IE 7 too.

Stable? Not necessarily....
Always a good idea to set a system restore point before installing anything. Then if you have any problems you can recover your OS.To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -

Sound advice, though for Windows Updates I don't think you need to. It creates one automatically (with a not very helpful name which IIRC is something like "Software Distribution Service 3.0")0 -
