You guys are so clever! I was just killing time when I stumbled on your thread about lpg and veg oil. But I got a bit confused, and as my car's petrol, I thought I'd start a new one. Firstly, my car is only a little corsa, 1.4, and its a bit old, '97. I do lots of miles, I'm a driving instructor, so do you think its worth converting such a small old car, (I need to keep this car for another year, then I'm hoping to get a newer one.) And would I still be able to sell it afterwards easy enough, do people get a bit funny when you say dual fuel? Scared of the unknown.
The other thing I'm unsure about was the veg oil option, it sounds great to me, just tip a bottle of oil in the tank, (I know its a bit more complicated than that) but am I right thats only for diesel cars? Is there any other alternative for a petrol car?
Thanks
Mary

Mary, sorry bot you cannot run a petrol car on vegetable oil, though a mixture of petrol
and alcohol should work-don't ask me how- tho'you could try looking on google.
If you are only keeping your car for a year or so,then it would hardly be worth while converting to lpg, even taking into account tax relief on the conversion costs.
I was going to suggest that you brought forward the purchase of your new car.Reason being that as the price of fuel continues to rise, many people will be unable to run
their car and there will be a glut on the market bringing the prices down. However you have a small car,and I think that many will trade down to smaller engined cars so you might be ok.On top of that it will not be easy to find a small car that has already been converted to lpg -but that would be ideal.
At the moment, cars that have been converted to lpg tend to sell more cheaply than ones that have't been converted-though I believe that will change soon.
Have a look at companies that lease cars and ask them about lpg conversions and how much they charge.Ask them if they have any second hand ones coming up soon and what price would they be.I expect those cars will likely be medium sized at least. But if you don't ask,you won't know and there may well be the odd one or two smallish car about. And you only want one.0 -
