which boiler to buy?

I had the british gas engineer today and he advised me to think about a replacement boiler. My boiler is 14 yrs and is still functional but he said, it is only 65% energy efficient & I will save more than £100 if I buy a new one. Tomorrow somebody from british gas will come and give us an estimate with no obligation. I just want to know which one is getter an ordinary boiler or a combi one. Thanks

I recently had a new boiler fitted and went through the exercise of what is the best boiler and picked two I read as being the best but unfortunately because of where my boiler is located I could have neither as they did not meet the regulation regarding the flue. In the end I went for a the boiler the plumber recommended and it is very good.

British Gas quoted me £4500 and I got the job done with a Corgi guy for £1800

Good afternoon: What boiler (make and model) do you have? Have you had to spend out on it or have you been happy with its performance? There is no need to replace a boiler which is safe and performing as and when required. Be warned ...BG salespeople can be very persuasive...their service engineers are encouraged to push replacement boilers regardless of the situation.
If it 'ain't broke' don't replace it.;)

It's an Elan 2, 14 yrs old, it is still functional and has just been serviced by BG. No way, I am going to spend 4K+ on a new boiler. I thought, it was worthy having a no obligation visit so that I can get an idea. I understand 14 yrs is about their life span and they do not make this model anymore. Thanks

Good evening: Parts are still available for the Elan 2 (although there are over 40 models both NG and LPG versions and you haven't specified the particular model)...BG has a habit of claiming parts are unavailable only to sourced by independent CORGIs...recent discussion on MSE here .

i tend to agree with Canucklehead , i am a Corgi in Scotland similar behaviour occurs with BG up here the service engineer triggers a sales person to fleece you then guess what a local corgi installs on behalf of BG at a fixed rate & they pocket a massive mark up .
