Galvanised Steel Soffits and Fascia's

The Soffits, Fascia’s and guttering desperately need doing on our detached house. We have had a company round that quoted £2100 to do them in Galvanised steel.

They were saying it is much much better than upvc stuff. Anyone had this done or know if it is hard wearing.

It should be more durable as it is steel. The only issue i could see is if it gets damaged / scratched beneath the galvanised layer it could start to corrode.

How can it be more hardweaing than uPVC? Its up in the air and the only thing that touches it is the rain. uPVC is very durable, cost effective and long lasting. Also, you don't need a specialist skill base to repair it if something goes wrong. If your new galy steel goes wrong and the company has gone bust, you will need a metal smith to come and fix it - very expensive. uPVC is easy and low cost to repair and maintain and is completely maintenance free (save fro cleaning the gutters out occassionally). Why go for a product that has been time tested?

  • Thanks for the replies folks. Waiting for quotes from a couple of other firms. I'm not convinced about the Steel but will mull it over.

Anyone had problems with thier Upvc Fascia etc?
