All,
As an FYI, AA has announced that as from the 12th May all economy passengers will be charged $25 for a second checked-in bag. Meaning that you can only check-in one bag for "free".
It's not clear yet if it will also affect international travelling in the future. AA said that the move will help offset the raising fuel costs.
It follows a trend initiated by Delta, United and Northwest on domestic routes!

continental are bringing this in just for domestic flights....i'd guess this will probably be the same for AA...or a massive shot in the foot for getting economy passengers0

I think this is a good thing, you already get to take a roll on in the cabin up to 18KG so 1x23 and 1x18 shoud be enough for anyone. It may save them putting up the fairs accross the board. But then I would say that, I am AA platinum and it won't affect me anyway:jThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

AFAIAA it is only for domestic - and there are as yet no plans to expand this to any flight involving interntational travel.
Someone on flyertalk quoted a figure of this impacting 4% of domestic customers as there are that many exception.
It will apply to tickets bought after the 12th of May - and only for the cheapest domestic economy fares.
