using a wire brush on new mahogany doors?

Hi there,

I have got all my new (and turning out expensive) mahogany 4 panel doors fitted now, thanks to all on the forum who advised me. I am getting quotes from painters to give them all a nice varnish. One painter seems to be reasonable enough with his quote for 12 doors (£180 to varnish doors and stain frames work only)

He has mentioned having to use a wire brush during sanding process etc. Is that acceptable enough as I though that a wire brush might damage the door?
