Hi, I have a removable hard drive, however it didnt come with any encryption software, is there anyway I could encrypt certain files, and if the worst came to the worst (say my pc died) I would at a later date be able to retrieve the files back to my pc? Hopefully "free" would be best, after all this is MSE!!!
Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.

Truecrypt is easily the best out there, but it cannot encrypt single files, you must first set-up an file to act as an encrypted volume which you then mount and copy files to and from, as you would with any drive/volume.
For file encryption there is the free AxCrypt which is good.
Also you can use use strong encryption in Zip files, either with WinZip, or the free Open Source 7-Zip.
I posted on a similar topic a few months back, might be worth a search too.0
