Being a carer is a full time job anyway, what you need is help not more money. I care full time for DH and have children to look after on top.

I had to give up work to care for my disabled twins in the 1990s. And could only get one carers allowance. However if we had been getting childcare costs we would have got more. Just wasnt feasable, so I will sign for you. There is a difference between caring as a mother whose choice it is to stay, and caring when its for someone, be it child or adults who have a problem. I hope that things improve for you.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Done, but I agree with brokenhearted, carers should be given more help.

before i could drive i had to do similar, i feel for you mspig , we used to need two busses and train, back then we had to use guards van and stand all the way as they could guarantee the safety of my hospital buggies. :( the family fund pays for driving lessons... i learnt at 30.

Don't you also get disability benefit?
I will be honest, my wife is disabled and the amount of benefits she get's is embarrassing. DLA, Incapacity Benefit, Industrial Injuries Benefit.
It is around £900 a month.
So be honest about how much allowances you get rather than say "I only get £50 a week"
  • I'm my partner's carer but because I work a 35-hour week as well, I'm not eligible for anything.
I provide care for my partner in the core hours which are between 8pm and 8am.

But, what the hell, one day I may be eligible so I'll sign the petition.
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)

If they give more money, they will take it off somewhere else. If they give support and more important respite care you feel so much better in yourself.
