  • yes everyone has to pay tax and duty.

im challenging because i feel they have overcharged me. im expecting to get a phone call from the lady who drafted the revised calculations tomorrow so lets see where we go from there.

cashsavepounds: id query the charges they say, send them over the original invoice detailing the cost of the products and delivery charges and ask them to recalculate. hopefully they should lower it. should be about £30 for you

DHL's admin fee wouldn't be that much. For something like £100, it'll be £2 at most.

    Why £2 at most?

If that is true, great, but Royal Mail admin fee is £8 for same service (i.e the service of dealing with and paying HMRC on your behalf) so I would be very surprised at such a "low" admin fee.

    EDIT

    I stand corrected... http://www.dhl.co.uk/publish/gb/en/information/shipping/about_duty_and_vat.high.html

Are you sure they aren't classing you as a business customer OP?
 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I was just as surprised as you when I saw those charges, as like you I expected it to be nearer the tenner mark like RM. I think it's a bit difficult to determine whether there's a genuine error on DHL's part or a calculation error on the OP's part without a full breakdown of all the charges (at least in the way DHL have described them).

i 'think' dhl can do it for a low fee as they do an end to end service rather than picking it up from the uk end
