Wireless on Vista

Hi. I'm having a slight problem with my wireless on Vista. I have researched on the Web but can't resolve the problem.

The problem is I can connect to the internet via wireless however I can only get a "local" connection. Thus meaning I cannot use the internet.

Any ideas how to sort the problem? Thanks.

you only have a local ip address, Do you have a DHCP router you need to look in the wireless settings on the pc and find your ssid. At this time do not use encryption, once you have wireless working turn on encryption and use wep/wpa settings.

DHCP is enabled. It is a Billion wireless router. Do you mean try connecting with authentication disabled to see if that works?

    network access: should say
    local and internet
    or local area connection
    or LAN for short
means you are on the net...

It looks like the wireless side is ok, as you can connect to the router as a LAN or local only.

    Some things to try...
Are you able to connect to internet via network cable to router?

Could be that the router isn't connecting to your ISP?
Do the front panel LEDs show ADSL is connected?
    Reboot the router?
Or try 192.168.1.254 in internet explorer to access the router’s web interface to check the ADSL status settings. (.1.254 = best guess - could be different - mine is 192.168.0.1 - see your manual)

Is a firewall rule is preventing internet access?
If the router has a NAT - try again after disabling any firewall software you may have.

FWIW - my brother recently set up a wireless router on a Tiscali account.
It wouldn't let him access the internet during setup whilst the phone cable was attached.!
Had to disconnect it - set up the router - reconnect and bingo - go figure

    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.
