smelly suitcases

Hi All
Any ideas for this wee problem would be appreciated.
At the weekend I bought a couple of suitcases, and you may think it odd and remiss of me but I didn't think to check how they smelt inside!
The whole top of my home now smells to high heaven, I'm not sure if it is the plastic or possibly the glue that is used to fix the lining in or what, what I do know is I don't want to go on holiday and have to go around with all my clothes smelling like this.
So any bright ideas on how to remove strong smells or should I just give up and return said suitcases to the shop?
Alex

Hmmm what have you tried so far? Febreezed it?? That always works wonders for me!!
I'm sure other people have great ideas of special potions you can make prob using lemon and goodness know's what else!
I think i know what smell you are talking about, and its horrible!!! Tried sticking it outside and airing it? Maybe make up bags of nice smelly bits and stick them inside?!:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0 -
Try the old fridge fresh - shaped like an egg and leave it in closed case. Otherwise, put some bicarb of soda in a nice smelling sock and leave that in for about a week. If the smell is the glue, it could be that you need to wash the outsides of the cases with soapy wash.

I has always thought scented drawer liners were the sort of thing your Gran buys you. However, after collecting coupons in the Daily Express last week for £5 off at Laura Ashley, I bought some. (I had my boisterous twins with me so picked up the first thing I could see for a fiver and made a quick exit before they could break anything!)
Anyway, I lined my drawers with them (as you would) and now all my clothes have a delicate scent of lavender and sweet basil.
You could line your suitcases with them and then use the in your draws when you get back from your hols!Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
Any of the above ... or ... take them back to the shop and complain! I take it they were new?0

We bought cases from Matalan a few years ago, and same - never thought to smell inside, the ones on display were just normal. When we got home and opened them the smell was awful. A very strong chemical and also rubbery smell. I don't think if we'd left them outdoors for months, open, the smell would have gone. And the thought of putting clothes in them - you'd never have got the smell out of your clothes. We took them back.
I now never buy bags or cases without opening them and smelling the inside.
A few weejs ago I saw a really neat small trolley case in Asda, ideal for overnight or a weekend, but I got the chap to take it down - it was on the top shelf of course - and said I wanted to smell inside the case. The same again - really strong. It must be some of the chemicals they use in the construction.0
