Chkdsk

I am getting this message:

"The file or/directory is corrupted and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility"

Not sure what this means. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Start, All programs, Accessories, Command Prompt. At the prompt, type "chkdsk c: /f" (assuminng that the drive with the errors is your c: drive).

You will probably be asked to reboot. Watch carefully as it reboots and you'll see if any errors were found/fixed.

it means just what it says, some files are borked!
    to run chkdisk
mycomputer> right click on the drive>properties>Tools>Error-checking> tick the 1st option if you want to use your pc again today, the 1st and 2nd if you want to use it this week, though it is more thorough.

or Start>Run>CHKDSK C: /f this will also require a reboot
if this happens again, consider a new hard drive

Alternatively click on My Computer, right click your hard drive, click properties, then tools, under Error Checking click Check Now.

Use one of the following procedures:
•To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
•To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start.
•To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.

You may get an error message which will say it will be scheduled for restart, if so click Yes, and this will restart your PC and then run.
