yes you can work and claim dla but getting higher rate mobility states you have to be virtually unable to walk to recieve this so that counts out a manual job.
the job he is looking at is a driving job for a local car hire company. all he would have to do is drive the car to the customer and hand it over, and then get driven back by another employee. i don't think they could say it chances his entitlement do you ? his condition hasn't changed at all and he still can't walk without crutches and pain, but he is ok driving. and as he has a mobility car from them and has had for the past 13 years ,i can't see how they can try and say that driving changes his entitlement !

im afraid it does not matter how long you have been getting dla dwp can still change the goalpost and i know a driving job is not physical getting in and out as well as using pedals in a manual car can stll give dwp something to look at.13 years ago it was easier to get dla now it is a lot harder and if you read the sun today they took dla away from a soilder who lost a leg and had a false limb put on so i would not say they cannot try to take dla from people.

Hi, I can't see anything that specifically says you have to inform them that you are working, but I have been advised by a disability advisor in the past that you should. Don't know if this is any help to you althought I suspect you have already read it http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/DG_10012424

Also these people are a good resource and wil give you accurate and up to date info and support http://www.dialuk.info/

This is an example of poor training of front line staff by the DWP. The answer is that all relevant changes of circumstances need to be notified at the earliest opportunity. Where the confusion arises is that whereas it is obvious that you need to tell Income Support that you have inherited £50K or Job Seekers Allowance that you now have a job with DLA you actually need to know the law (criteria) to know whether or not a change is relevant. You can work and receive DLA but it depends on why you were awarded - if were receiving the benefit because you needed help from another person with your bodily functions but are now working all day in an office it would raise serious doubts about your need for this help, if however you were receiving the benefit due to being blind your needs would not change no matter what job you had (although they may increase). If I were you I would notify them in writing detailing exactly what the job entails. It is then down to them to decide if the change is relevant.

Basically I think you have to be honest and inform the Benefits Agency, but it may be a good idea to go through the Job Centre as they have a department that specialises in placing disabled people into work and thereby you would more likely to be able to keep your dla. I am talking from experience as my partner was in this position although he was not getting DLA but was getting Industrial Injury Benefit and Incapacity. Has he thought of going to college or Uni, just a thought, this was what my partner done as he had previously only done manual work and had no qualifications but after getting a HND now works in an office and is very happy.

When you notify them also include in the letter what support/help/assistance he receives to help him at work. My friend claims DLA mobility, he works in an office but had a place made for him on the ground floor, access to toilets changed etc to enable him to work there.
One day I might be more organised...........
