WTC self employment advice please

I tried self employment from 1st Feb to 5th April before and after that on JSA.
I applied for WTC soon after starting but still not got anything yet. I have been ringing up every week and got told its something to do with wife not being recognised because she is not British, but she has valid visa and NI number and everything.
Every time I ring they just say something like they sent away for a referral or something. I told the last adviser I was told the same thing long ago and Im worried I will still be being told the same thing for some time.
Is there anything I can do apart from ringing? I know you cant email them so would it do any good if I wrote and asked them to please contact me?
