Ioniser are they worth having ?

I am considering buying an ioniser, but are they worth having ? Do you notice the difference using one ?

I have a little round the neck one from Boots, and I think it helps, but it costs a lot in batteries. The other day we saw some for £3 from Boots which plug into your computer and have a rechargeable battery inside so can also be worn round the neck, the charge doesn't seem to last awfully long, not the whole afternoon.

Trouble is I can hear the high-pitched noise it makes and I don't much like that ...

Don't know if a bigger one would do any good ...

    My question here ...

  • I use an ioniser, had it for as long as I can remember! I only tend to use it in the summer when heyfever is bad. I have it in my bedroom and keep the door closed to stop pollen getting in there from other rooms in the house. You definitely feel a huge difference in the air as you walk in the room when it’s on. It tends to feel very cool and fresh, completely different from anywhere else in the house! It amazes me as it’s such a little box and old now so I’d imagine up to dates ones will be very worthwhile. I intend to buy a new up to date one ready for next summer.

I have a small ioniser in my living room as well as another one in the bedroom and just as a personal opinion I would say that they do me good, although I can't say exactly why or what they do technically.

The only downside I have noticed is that they attract the dirt in the air, which then likes to impregnate itself into my white walls, (don't think I would have noticed though if they were another colour), but, if you wipe them once/twice a week with some soapy water then it doesn't build up and become noticable.

Some insects called the human race,
Lost in time, and lost in space,
    And meaning"
  • Yes I agree about them attracting the dirt/dust from the air – I always clean it regularly (bit of a cleaning freak to be honest!!) but I haven’t noticed mine making the white walls dirty – maybe it’s not that strong being old! I don’t sit mine next to the wall, I sit it on a folded up tissue on the front of a shelf (white shelf!), each time I clean it I put a clean tissue underneath. I have a friend who has ironisers everywhere. She has a house full of plants and hides them in the pots. Her ironisers are very yellow and sticky, she’s a smoker and I guess it attracts the nicotine too! Also just to note I know someone mentioned them making a noise – mine doesn’t seem to (it’s a plug in type).

I have one in the bedroom, one in the study, one in the living room and one in the kitchen. Fantastic at air cleaning and introducing the feelgood into the atmosphere. Careful to get a proper ioniser and not an air purifier, which releases ozone and can trigger asthma.

Two are natural salt lamps, one is a normal but powerful ioniser and the one in the kitchen is a goodsphere which washes the air as well as ionising. The water turns from clear to grey. http://www.goodsphere.co.uk/

ours is a black plug in one triangular shape with ridges all way down and holes with little wires in never found it any use my husband has heyfever which triggers asthma and we have never noticed it help in anyway but we always have it plugged in hoping its doing something!!!!!!!!!
also it doesnt make any noise just has a tiny light when on.
  • Tchibo have some air purifiers on sale at the moment - but the blurb also mentions an ionising effect. The bigger one is £24.99, and the smaller one is £9.99 - they both run on electricity.

Hi,i saw this on a site the other month while looking for a dehumidifier, http://www.breathingspace.co.uk/pages/airfree_p125_platinum.php
I ended up buying an Ebac dehumid for there,i can highly recommend them, also i am a firm beliver in 'You get what you pay for' (quality wise) I understand that a £3 plug in type is cheap but as the poster said, they didnt notice any difference.

Hope this helps on your quest
