Thanks for this. for 3rd / 4th person in the cabin it's ony £49.

So for my family of 4 it's a bargain.

Has anyone been on this ship before?

    Thanks

No but its the same as the Norwegian Jewel, except for the decoration......the Jade was he Pride of Aloha (I think) until a couple of months ago, and it had a makeover into the Jewel style of ship.

We loved The Jewel.....for the kids theres the Kids Club, Pool, Karaoke, Games Room.....the missus liked the gym and the spa......I did the casino mainly.

The two main dining rooms are fine to eat in (anytime rather than fixed sittings), but you can pay a supplement to one of the speciality restaurants.....eg Steak, Italian, French, Japanese, Tex Mex. Youll need to book when you get on of you want a speciality restaurant (maybe $10-$15 PP).

Theres also a theatre (maybe 750 seats) that usually has two sittings eg 7.30pm and 10pm.

Tip - take a torch if youve got an inside cabin.

Tip 2 - the fishes (or dolphins or whatever they did on the Jade) on the carpet all face the front of the boat, so that should reduce the nuber of times you get lost.

    Enjoy.

Just got back from this £99 cruise. Very disappointed. The so called Freestyle dining left a lot to be desired. If you wanted to eat before 6pm and after 11pm you could get a table. You have to book your tables within the first hour of getting on to be able to choose the time you want to dine. However, the daily sheet it said there was no need to book unless you were in a large party and wanted to eat together. We opted for the Jasmine Restaurant (oriental food) and the Papa's Italian kitchen. Although the service in the Italian was quite good, the food was very bland. We booked a table last night in the Jasmine for 9pm. We waited for 15 mins to be seated and then another 30 minutes before they took the drinks order. We were presented with a bottle of water which we later found out was chargable. Very crafty considering other tables were being offered jugs of water. The started finally arrived at 10.20pm! All we could hear around us were complaints. The quality of the food was also very poor. We finally left at 11.30pm. As there was a cover charge, we presumed that we would get a better service. On top of the cover charge, you then get charged 15% for service on the total of your bill.

We had a lovely suprise this morning to discover you have to pay a 10 dollar service charge per person per day. Because the staff are guaranteed tips regardless of service, they had very little interest in providing a good service in return.

Anyway, I could go on and on, but needless to say, if you want a bargain break and are not really bothered about service or quality of food, then book a short break on an NCL ship. On the plus side, the cabins were clean with ample hot water.

I certainly won't be booking another NCL cruise!

What a shame. And these are both restaurants you paid extra for!

Can I ask why you chose not to eat in the main dining room? Was wondering if you tried there first but could not get a table.

How did you book the restaurants and when?

Where the drinks expensive. Things like a coke, wine cocktail of the day. Did you have a sailaway party?

Thanks for any tips or info.

Well, we tried to get into the main restaurants and were told it was an hour's wait. We then went from one to the other and the only one we could sit in straight away was Mama's Italian kitchen. Found the food very bland in there. Pudding was ok though.

The second night we booked in the Jasmine (Oriental food) and was very disappointed with the food and the service was dreadful. We booked a table for 9am and we didnt get out of the place until 11.30.

I would have a look on the websites and then reserve the tables the minute you get on the ship. There is a $20.00 for the Cagneys Steakhouse, Jasmine is $10.00, Teppanyaki is $25.00 and there are some others which charge but I've cannot find the info now.

A cocktail ranged from $7 - $9.50. A Vodka and coke was $5.50 but you then have to add on a compulsory 15% tip. I dont know if you can avoid this tip if you go to the bar though.

The sailaway consisted of loud music on the top deck and was very very crowded. There was a glass of something being handed out but we seemed to miss that one. Not at all like the P&O sailaways where you have a brass band or such like playing.

If you are looking for a couple of days away from home and are not too fussed about quality of service (waited an hour for drinks), or food, you will have a good time. The problem is, I've been spoilt by previous P&0 cruises and I expect this as a minimum. However, I've paid double the price for my next weekender which is in September on the Ventura.

I'm glad I went because I now know that I wouldnt book a week on one.

I've been on four cruises with NCL and they were all excellent, not been on the Jade although I would have thought the standards should be the same throughout.

Have you written and complained to NCL?

I haven't as yet. I've noticed a few reviews where the passengers have been ill with sickness and diarrohea. Strangely enough my friend whom I travelled with called me yesterday to say she has also been ill. All very curious.

Do you know who you direct complaints to? I've had a look on the website and nothing is obvious.

Have you travelled on any other cruise ships? My first cruise was on the Airtours Sunbird. This was like a budget cruise but still better than NCL. Service was good. My next cruise was with Fred Olsen, service was good but quality of food was poor (very easy to digest shall we say). Then the last 4 have been with P&O where service and quality of food was spot on.

No, only with NCL, I would e-mail the Cruise Director at their Head office, find their e mail on their website
