The cable has probably snapped, only suggestion I can give is get under the car with a pair of pliers, find the cable where it goes to the front of the bonnet and give it a pull.

In some cars even when the lever is pulled and the bonnet undone you still have to find a little lever under the bonnet and pull/push it to totally release it... run your fingers under the rim you can usually just feel for it... the either press or pull should release it..
But it could be the cable of course... in which case do as previous poster suggests...

& the thing to remember when closing the bonet (once you've got it open!!), is NOT to push down on the front, just 'to make sure it's locked'.

What you should do, on most front opening models, is simply to allow the bonnet to drop, by its own weight, this should be sufficient. You can then test it, by trying to gently lift from under the front edge, as this will make you aware of it being locked down, or only partially closed.

By doing this, you'll not get small, hand & finger indentations form in the bonnet!

  • Depends where the cable has snapped. If its come off at the lever, just pull the upholstery apart and find it. If its come off at the catch, you're going to have a problem.

It can be a very costly and time consuming job, if its a modern car the cable and lock will be shielded to prevent theft, often the only solution is to break something(front grill.!?)

Anyway before all that pull the lever as normal and get someone to try and lift the bonnet it may just be stuck on the catch if it hasn't been opened for a while.

    Almost the reverse of this...

Get someone to push down on the bonnet by the catch while you pull the handle/knob/cable. This can sometimes reduce the pressure on the catch, allowing it to open easily.

All this depends on whether the cable is broken or not.
