Not enough information! What encryption are you using? Does the same happen if you disable encryption?

I think this is right. It`s WPA.Also it is Sky and I am not sure you can turn off the encryption.

Of course you can! Go to your browser and type in http://192.168.0.1 then using your username and password, which is usually admin and sky unless you have changed it, log into the router. Go to the Wireless Settings page. You could try changing the wireless channel (1-13) to a different channel.

So are you saying that your wireless connection still dropped after a couple of minutes, when you had disabled encryption?

Did you try changing the wireless channel? From what to what?

Now that you have re-installed, have you re-entered the WPA key?

    Hi,

Have you made sure that your WPA network key has been entered in capitals? I would also go to check in my preferred network list that I only had my own wireless connection listed :D

if you want, I can type instructions for you on how you check your preferred networks and how you can re-enter your network key, just let me know which operating system you are using (xp/vista ect)

Okay, If you dont have the options I will give up for you it mean that you are using he netgear software rather than windows to configure your network.

right click the little pic of the pc in your bottom right hand corner near the clock and choose 'open network connections' right click your wireless network and choose 'properties' hopefully a box will pop up and 'wireless networks' will be the middle tab. click on the wireless network tab and have a look at your preferred networks. click on each network in the list and then click on the 'remove' button that pops up below. Do this for all of the networks in the list including your sky one. Once they are all gone, click on 'ok' and shut down the box.

Next, right click on your little pc near the clock again and this time choose 'view available wireless networks' pick our your sky network and click 'connect' you will be asked for your network key which is on the bottom of your router. Its really important that you have your caps lock on as if you dont, your connection will keep dropping and your will get lots of annoying 'limited or no connectivity' messages. confirm the network key in caps again and click ok or connect.

Hopefuly that will sort out your connection :)

If you are using the netgear software, open up your netgear connection wizard and find the network key you entered, delete it and type it in again in caps.

If you still have problems just reply again, i am going out for a while now but will be back this afternoon :)

Normally these issues are channel related and the acquiring IP address can also be a sign of that or someone inputting an incorrect key. If it's something that started recently then you may find that someone near you has gone wireless on the same channel number as you.
If the issue has always occured with the "acquiring IP address" message then its 9 times out of 10 a case of net key in lower case instead of capitals as some users do not realise how important it is to put things in exactly as they are on the card/ sticker.
