Thanks for mentioning train tickets -it reminded me I hadn't booked my rail ticket to Glasgow for 20th. Got a single for £35 which considering the rail from here to Kings cross bought seperately is £17 is a sweet deal. Virgin are usually the cheapest but this time National Express (trains) were cheaper and had an online 10% discount too -no card charge and no postage charge (getting a lift back so that's even cheaper

The thing about the student is a reminder that even tho you've had a mega salary increase, it still isn't easy for you - I think many of us (including me) were imagining that all your troubles would be over, just keeping up with the demands of a new job would do it all.
What's the incomings/outgoings situation now, hypno? Are you breaking even on basic income, with other stuff going to extra debtbusting, or is it still the way it was, with the extra effort going to monthly payments? I'm *so* hoping its now the former.....

Would you like us to help you design a contract for Panias staying?
My suggestion, she can pay part of her rent in chocolate? (post diet of course)0 -

Should I go and pack Pania's bags for her ready to move in then - while she is out at work we could have it all sorted
Karma, no the money stuff is not really sorted - just made easier!
If we are lucky, the new job will allow us to break even. It does not, however, allow us to get the children skiing (even the races in the UK) or to make any extras towards the debt, or to save for emergencies or, heaven forbid, to have a holiday!
So, although it makes it much easier, I still HAVE to get the extra income in one way or another or else we will be on minimum payments for ever and the debt will never be gone.
But it WILL make things easier, there can be no doubt about that. But just because I am a stockbroker, does not mean I am earning a 6 figure salary with enough of a bonus to buy a second home.........:o (sadly!)Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Thanks for the tip about eurobet elantan - off to check that one out.
Think having Pania as a lodger sounds fab Hypno - get her moved in before she gets back from work - she won't mind! :rotfl::rotfl:
Do you take foreign language students on short term or university/college students for the whole year? I wonder if we could think about that - we have a spare room - probably not big enough for a student to work in as well as sleep but they could have my office as well! Mmmn - maybe not. But short term lets I like the idea of. I used to let a room out for 3 nights a week to someone who lived away but worked in the area for 4 days - worked great. Extra money but got a bit of privacy too.
Good luck with making the extra.0 -
Thanks mizmir.....we rent out to A level students from Norway - they come over on some sort of "Exchange" programme (although no actual exchange involved!). They are 17/18 so we have to have parental responsibility - great when they are drunk at parties!!!!!
They are here for the full school year......so if we don't get on, it would be pretty difficult! So far, 3 out of the 4 students have been fab! The other was just about ok!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. How strange......as I was typing about our student lodgers - the phone rang and it was the first one we had, saying he is coming to visit in a couple of weeks :j
He was a really fab student to have around, so we are always very happy to see him!! Looking forward to it!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
How weird is that - but how nice that they keep in touch and visit.0

Hi Hypno,
I'm back on the internet for a while, so can post again, it takes ages to get up to date with what you've been doing.
Congratulations on the new job.0
