Writing things down is to put it lightly. The Diary of Doom has everything, meal plan, shopping list, when to take stuff out the freezer, when his days off are, appointments, when stuff's been paid, number's i ned to call - everything. Like my right arm it is, I find that the more organised I am, the less money I waste, say when you foget to take the meat out the freezer and have to get a takeout.

So Obi can I ask - is it an actual diary or a notebook or an organiser... or...?
Just trying to work out how to manage stuff and organise it. I have a calendar on my computer which works for me but feel I need something physical for lists - just can't decide how to put it together ... there are "to do" lists, reminders, notes, targets, plans, daily stuff, financial stuff - don't think chronological will work....sections maybe....?
oh dear - am struggling at the first hurdle! :o:rolleyes:
  • I think i need a diary of doom as well Miz!
Hi Hypno well done on getting off the ground with the challenge..i think you will surprise yourself at how inventive and good your meals will be..you never know you could be a future Weezl and even have meals for 25p a day yet!
And young Hypno, sounds like he is heading that way..very freegan!

Young hypno likes his food - so anything that rewards him with a free lunch is attractive to him!! Also, I think it is a good move - teaching him that when money is scarce, you work a bit harder, and get a bit extra!

DD is talking about jobs too - she sat and looked at the amounts we owe on the online banking and stuff, and I think it shocked her more seeing them written down than it ever has done when I have tried to explain it all to them.....she says she wants to save "for the future" so she doesn't get into debt like me. Another good move, I think :D

So, all in all, the challenge is going to be a positive one - everyone seems to be on side so far - I know it is early days, but if we can't start off positively we will have no chance!!

Bob, I am not sure I will ever be in Weezl's league......but I am happy to steal ideas from her :D

I am completely with you obi on the diary - last year I lost mine for a few days and was very very lost without it.....mind you, I did think that I was too reliant on it when I started writing in it "9am......be dressed by now".....:o

That's great that you have got the children focussed on finance.I totally believe that kids from about the age of 10 can be involved about learning about money in a way that they understand of course.I feel that your children will be wonderful, hard working caring and very grounded people when they grow up as they are learning such valuable lessons now!!!!...
i still remember when you lost that diary...lol...I have a hard backed book that I write all sorts in here..it wouldn't make any sense to anyone else but it does to me...lol

Morning all.....the sun is shining - long may it last!

Today the children are racing near to home, so a later start - we opted out of the long distance journey this weekend......and are glad we did!

Last night's fish pie was delish, and costed out at £3.05 for 5 of us, including veggies.......we found a "packet mix" for a lemon meringue pie in the back of the cupboard and so had that too - didn't include that in the cost becuase it was so out of date that cost having been in the cupboard for so long, that it would have "lost" its value long ago :o

Tonight we will have pasta carbonara - £1.92 for all 5 of us.....and they will be good size portions.....so great value for money there, and very quick and easy to do.

I need petrol in the car today, but have a 5p a litre money off coupon that runs out today, so will be filling up at Tesco to make the most of that.

Other than that.....nothing to report! Have a good day x

Hi hypno! Your morning post wasn't up yet when I clicked to catch up on your diary, so I'm glad to see you - wow, the meal costs sound great. I'm failing at the grocery challenge, miserably. But then I think that until I heard about weezl I allowed myself £100 a month (tho didn't always use it) - I shouldn't be too hard on myself for not cutting down to £25 a month.

Diaries... oh yeah, I remember the diary loss and subsequent discussion on here! Mine is incredibly important to me, I upgraded last year to one that has 2 x A4 pages to a week, not 2 x A5 pages - I still need to see the whole week at once, but it does get *very* full, I must say!

Have a good one at the "local" skiing !

Hypno I remember the diary trauma as well, nearly as traumatic as the passport loss .

I too am having a lazy day. Looked for mystery shops & found 1 for today, couldn't be @rsed so didn't apply for it. 'Ghost of Hypno' kept nagging me though so I bit the bullet - & bl@@dy page has an error so can't submit request . Obviously not meant to be.

Mizmir - start with a list of lists. Sort by priority, mark with preferred medium (e.g. computer, A5 diary etc.). Resort list. Check what diaries you have & tick off against what you need. Decide if you can substitute any with something you already have. Check on ebay for nice note books. Find nice pink leather Smythson one that you just know would make you more organised. See the light & log out QUICKLY. Scuttle back to kitchen & make a cuppa. Go back to original list. Can't find it. Spend 1 hour looking for it. Find next to kettle. Make another cuppa. Go back to original list. Can't find it. Spend 1 hour looking for it. Find next to kettle. Make another cuppa. Go back to original list. Repeat as necessary. Then come back on here & tell us about it. That seems to be how most of us do it anyway :rotfl:.

Brilliant ali - glad I am not the only one! I have about 15 note books in various states of completeness - plus an organiser and so many applications on my computer for "personal management" I have lost count! I have a filing cabinet, filing boxes and a filing wallet. And still most of my lists are scribbled on the back of an envelope and lost! :rotfl:The book I have from work has project "sections" and lots of space so I am thinking I might use that - the pages tear out without leaving a trace - could be good or bad depending on which way you look at it! So I have 5 sections and am planning: targets, routines, daily to dos, longer term to dos (linked to targets) and notes. Could be fab or could be a disaster!!
