car repair delay - can you beat this??

Aaah I hate dealing with car garages.

My car developed a knocking noise so I took it to my local Vauxhall garage, turns out my stearing rack needs replacing. Lovely.... they don't have the part in stock but they will get one sent over ASAP.

We have now hit week 12 :mad::mad: and I have had every excuse under the sun as to why the cannot get hold of a part. My poor little car has been sat in their garage and I have been given a tank of a people carrier to drive which I am having to insure on my policy as their cover was c**p.

I just want my car back grrrrr

Get the part yourself off the net, then get a backstreet garage to fit for a far less quote.:rotfl:

  • Am so tempted to do that. My MOT expired mid March so would there be problems in driving it off the forecourt??

Currently on hold to CS to complain AGAIN and to try and get it sorted.

why not get a price at your local mot station for a replacement rack supply & fit?
if your happy with the price you can book it in for MOT anf legally drive it to the mot station

Ridiculous that it is taking this long - they could've got a recon one in a couple of days tops.

Your car may not be driveable at the moment - depends if they have stripped it ready - even so, a recovery vehicle could move it and take it to an independent garage for you.

Is this a Vauxhall dealership? If so, why not contact Vauxhall themselves?

I did this once re my car, I wrote and emailed Fords and told them that their dealerships were letting them down. No one likes bad press.

    Name and shame the dealership!

If its a main dealer then they wont be allowed to , im sure they will have to use original VX parts direct from VX, i agree take it elsewhere and get a recon or OEM one from another garage.

True. Didn't think for a mo there :o

I say get the car out of there and complain to Vauxhall - tho if they don't have any racks available.... kinda not the dealers fault....

  • After contacting customer services yesterday afternoon and explaining the whole sorry story to them they got straight onto the case and lo and behold my 'missing/not in production/don't know where it is/unavailable' part will be with the garage in 24 to 48 hours.

will now begin negotiating with them over the bill..... muppets
